A TOP trip - a recommended sight-seeing trip in České Budějovice

We have made a selection of 15 places worth visiting. They may be totally forgotten, specific at certain times, or newly opened or renovated. That is why we recommend a visit to them, so you can get a first-hand idea of their atmosphere.

The trip includes:

(1) Baba lookout – a former hillfort located high above the Vltava between Hluboká nad Vltavou and Purkarec. Its location provides a beautiful view of the river and the countryside. Recommended at sunrise.

(2) Židova strouha – beautiful country with a stream flowing amid rock formations and discharging into the Lužnice River. The navigability of the trail changes depending on the weather; it can make a standalone trip. The trail along the Židova strouha is marked with yellow hiking signs; we will take you to the most beautiful place where the stream meets the Lužnice. A brochure on the Židova strouha has been published in cooperation with the South Bohemian Tourism Center’s hiking series; it takes you from Týn nad Vltavou to Bechyně.

(3) The Vltava Trail – the Vltava River is the connecting element of the area between České Budějovice and Koloděje nad Lužnicí, which is near the confluence of the Lužnice and the Vltava.

(4) Mitrowitz Chateau – a Baroque chateau that has recently been renovated and is again open to visitors after the great floods.

(5) Týn nad Vltavou underground tunnels – a section of the tunnels under the town is accessible for guided tours.

(6) Fishing on the Vltava – the Vltava River offers angling spots not only on the river as such but also in a section of the Hněvkovice Reservoir.

(7) Church of Our Lady of Sorrows in Dobrá Voda near České Budějovice – a landmark near České Budějovice, a unique Baroque church, at least on the south Bohemian scale.

(8) Budějovice cruises – guided cruises on the Malše and Vltava rivers are a beautiful and popular new feature.

(9) Hluboká game parks – Hluboká and its surroundings are known for their hunting history. Hunting enthusiasts may even be part of a hunt.

(10) Water Tower in České Budějovice – a technical heritage site, formerly used in water distribution around the town. Today it is flanked by a quiet little park and has a multimedia exhibition on the history of water.

(11) Lída Polesná Center, České Vrbné – a whitewater center on a manmade canal where you can try your skill between gates on a raft, kayak or SUP.

(12) Špuntárium in the Hluboká sports and relaxation center – a new place for young children built right next to the cycling trail in Hluboká nad Vltavou.

(13) Úsilné mineral water – historic mining in the nearby pits discovered a water of specific composition and the village has a fountain where you can scoop up the mineral water.

(14) Temelín Nuclear Power Plant Information Center – not far from the cooling towers of Temelín Nuclear Power Plant is the Vysoký Hrádek Chateau, which contains an exhibit about the nuclear power plant and power engineering. A park with a butterfly meadow and a bird trail lies next to the chateau.

(15) Hluboká Zoo – this popular zoo has made it into our selection thanks to its new exhibitions, accompanying programs for kids, and year-round opening hours. You can look forward to a unique ant show or to the Christmas-lit zoo.
